Rough Diamond

Known as the stone of invincibility, diamond is believed to  bring victory, superior strength, fortitude and courage to its holder. It has protective qualities, and imparts fearlessness, bringing about new beginnings.  Diamond lends fortitude when in high-pressure situations and help us handle them with grace. It can help one understand that how we respond to these difficulties reveal our true inner beauty. It also encourages one to look at hard-won growth and lessons and use them in a positive way.  For those who've lost themselves or their self-worth, are confused, reluctant or unable to step into their life path, diamond imparts a loving energy that radiates outward and clears the way.  Diamonds are said to inspire creativity, imagination, and resourcefulness.  Their ability to reflect and refract light is thought to bring clarity to it's holder opening one up to fresh ideas and potential possibilities.  It encourages psychic development and can intensify visions.  It is thought to be the gemstone of the intellect, and can help one resolve problems with clear understanding while preventing misunderstandings.  They bring love and clarity to all relationships, and bolster strength of character, morality, and faithfulness to oneself and others, encouraging both truth and trust.  Diamonds have been regarded as the stone of purity, stability and dependability.  Diamonds are great conductors and amplifiers of energy.  They bring strength and endurance to all energies, goals, and intentions, and enhance the power of other crystals.  They absorb thoughts and feelings and radiate them outward, both the positive and the negative so be mindful of what you are thinking!  A Diamond is a symbol of wealth, accumulation and the manifestation of abundance.  
Physically, this stone is incredibly helpful in boosting brain function, nerves and sensory organs. It is thought to help balance the hemispheres of the brain, and is thereforeto considered helpful for strokes and epilepsy, as well as dizziness and vertigo. It can help with glaucoma and clearing sight.  It has been said to counteract poisoning, has been used as an aid to all organs concerned with removing waste from the body, and has been used to help with passing kidney stones.  Diamond purifies and detoxifies the body, rebalances metabolism, increases stamina and strength, and can help in treating allergies and chronic conditions.

Diamonds are found in many areas around the world, including South Africa, India, Russia, Brazil, Australia, Canada and Arkansas in the USA. They form deep in the mantle and are exposed to astronomical forces of compression and heat before being brought to the surface by immense volcanic and geological activity.  There are also types of diamond found in meteorites, though these are usually very small and can have a different atomical structure than planet-formed diamond. Diamond is the only gem that rates 10 on the Mohs Hardness Scale, is inert to chemicals, has the highest melting point, the highest refractive ability of any natural mineral, the most dense atomical structure, is transparent over the greatest number of wavelengths, and also has the greatest thermal conductivity known, so that a sizeable stone held in the hand feels cold--which is why one of the slang words for diamonds is "ice." 
There are many legends and folklores about diamonds. One commonly reffered to legend tells of the God of Mines who ordered his courtiers to bring him every kind of gem in existence. He found them to be of all tints and colors and varying hardnesses. He took one of each and crushed them into a powder, compounded them together and said, “Let this be something that will combine the beauty of all; yet it must be pure, and it must be invincible.” Thus the diamond was born, colorless but when brought to the light displays all the colors of the gems from which it was made.  Another origin story from India says diamonds were born where lightning struck rock. The Sanskrit word for diamond is translated as thunderbolt, the weapon of their warrior god Indra.  The ancient Romans and Greeks believed that diamonds were the tears of the gods, or splinters that had broken off of falling stars. Roman literature states that Cupid’s arrows were tipped with diamonds. Classical Greek philosopher Plato wrote about the possibility that diamonds were living embodiments of celestial spirits.  In 800 BC Greece, a legend told of Chronos  changing a young man called Adamas, who possessed unbelievable strength and good fortune, into a precious stone.  In ancient times, Kings led wars on the battlefield wearing heavy leather breastplates studded with diamonds because diamonds were believed to possess magical qualities and superpowers beyond the understanding of man.
