  • Septarian formed during the Cretaceous Period, around 50 to 70 million years ago. Volcanic eruptions killed smaller sea life which sank to the sea floor and started to decompose. The minerals in the shells and carcasses attracted sediments which collected around the carcasses and formed nodules or mud balls. When the ocean receded, the mud balls dried out and began to shrink and crack and as they did, they had the tendency to create a distinctive pattern of 7 points in every direction.  The name Septarian comes from the Latin word "septum" meaning seven, or “saeptum” which means a wall or enclosure.  Septarian is made of Calcite, which makes up the yellow centers and Aragonite which are the brown lines, and Limestone that is the outer grey rock. Some have white, which is made of barite.

Septarian (also called Dragon Stone) is great for someone who speaks in public, as it gives confidence and allows one to gain an audience’s attention, making the audience feel as though you’re talking directly to them.  This stone offers balance and peace in all areas of life. It harmonizes intellect and emotions, helping to face and overcome every challenge with grace and confidence.   A grounding stone, Septarian promotes better tolerance and patience, as well as emotional flexibility.  It is very effective for problem solving, helping one keep calm and preventing one from making further mistakes.  During times of weakness, this stone offers strength. It combats stress, and is an extremely calming stone.  Septarian encourages teamwork in the workplace and it can disuade know-it-all attitudes.  In relationships, Septarian promotes sympathy, kindness, persistence, and acceptance.  Septarian has been used to detect the underlying cause of an illness and helps focus the body into healing itself.  It boosts the immune system and relieves pain, reduces muscle spasms and tremors, and helps in the absorption of calcium.  It can also benefit your spleen, circulatory system, and gall bladder.
